July 20, 2013 Triathlon Fundraiser
When you finish a meal you do not expect to hear loud music, people singing at the top of their lungs and see enthusiastic dancing all around. For some people these frivolities can be shocking. Unless…. you are spending one of the best weeks of your life at the most amazing place on earth. When I first walked onto the camp site over nine years ago, I had no idea how much Camp Fatima would change my life. Countless people, staff and campers have shown me the true meaning of life. Camp has an unexplainable cycle of love, commitment, and remarkable connection between volunteers and campers which is often referred to as “Fatimagic.” I have tried to put into words just how much camp means to me, but words cannot do “Fatimagic” its due justice.
What camp means in the words of a special camper Gionna AKA Gigi; “Camp Fatima means the world to me, I met some awesome people there. It’s a camp filled with lots of fun things to do and awesome people to meet. I always say the people from Camp Fatima are ‘gifts from God’. It’s a camp for special needs kids and young adults like myself it’s the BEST week of the summer!”
Just two years ago an amazing partnership was formed between a camper and volunteer. Anton and Tony worked together to tackle a marathon! I was inspired to incorporate this into a passion of mine… jump in a lake for a swim, then run to your bike for a ride, and finish by ditching the bike and going on a run. Triathlons have helped transform my life over the last year and a half by allowing me to shed unwanted pounds and become a healthier person overall. Triathlons have been life changing for me physically as well as emotionally. Meeting new people, being encouraged and cheered on by fellow athletes, family, friends and even perfect strangers is exhilarating! I want to give a camper I met last summer an opportunity to compete in a triathlon with me.
Inspired by team “Anton-Y” Gionna and I decided to work together in a similar fundraiser for our favorite camp in the world.
This summer on July 20th at Mercer County Park in
West Windsor, NJ Gionna and I will be competing in the New Jersey State Sprint Triathlon!
